JOB SUMMARY: (the purpose of the role)

The Salvage Yard Worker is responsible for maintaining all items related to recycling that is processed and at Goodwill’s processing center. The Worker will monitor the salvage volumes and schedule pick-ups/deliveries with the recycling vendors and their carriers when trailers and dumpsters are full. The Worker will also maintain the cleanliness of the yard and baling areas.

  • Maintain good housekeeping, safe and efficient yard operation
  • Prepare needed reports to track inventory of recyclable and salvage loads


  • Maintaining the cleanliness and organization of dock and yard areas.
  • Sorting recyclable material from trash.
  • Maintaining area in an organized and a safe manner by collecting carts, coops, and flats needed to carry out assignments.
  • Loading outbound trucks according to proper and safe loading procedures.
  • Moving full coops/totes to respective divisions, bringing back empty coops or flats.
  • Moving trash containers to Wares division.
  • Moving salvage materials from As-Is store to yard vendor, recycling, and trash.
  • Monitoring yard vendor sorting, ensuring established procedures are followed and cleanliness and safety are maintained.
  • Assisting drivers in safe the operation of vehicle, i.e., backing up, maneuvering in a safe manner in confined spaces.
  • Operating baling machine when necessary.
  • Completing bills of lading for outbound shipments.
  • Adhering to all safety procedures and maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS: (education, work experience, and technical competencies)

  • Forklift certification
  • Hazmat certification
  • Respects and has knowledge of cultures, ethnicities, gender, sexual orientations and age groups other than one’s own, able to work effectively with all.
