Job Description


Under general supervision, performs plumbing, carpentry, remodeling, painting, and a variety of other craft or building trades; work in the installation maintenance and repair of Goodwill’s retail buildings, warehouses, headquarters and related structures and equipment; operates a variety of hand, power and shop tools. The Facility Technician is responsible for performing the full range of duties, including the determination of requirements for specific task or projects, which includes planning, acquiring materials, as well as identifying building maintenance, repair issues, and completes it in a safe, orderly and high quality manner. Must perform all work functions by applicable laws and regulations, as well as established company policies, procedures, and controls. Promotes and conduct good housekeeping practices, is dedicated to supporting all departments by working in a safe, customer-focused manner. Must be highly self-motivated and customer-centric; maintain the relationship with 3rd party vendors.


  • Operates a variety of power tools and equipment used in the maintenance, repair and construction of buildings, retail stores, warehouses and offices of SF Goodwill.
  • Operates spray equipment and uses manual tools to paint a variety of interior and exterior surfaces;
  • Install or repair hinges, locks, and related hardware; Re-keys and duplicates, changes and master key systems including electronic locks;
  • Installs, repairs and maintains lavatories, sinks, wash basins, toilets, urinals, grease traps, drains, gas and electric heaters, water heaters, gas burning appliances, water filters, water tanks and pumps, boilers, and HVAC unit, and other plumbing systems and fixtures;
  • Performs framing, rough, and finish carpentry
  • Calculates, designs and prepares sketches for construction and modifications to be performed; estimates materials and lays out work; Reads and interprets blueprints, drawings, specifications and manuals.
  • Performs a variety of other tasks such as the repair of pumps, small motors, and other mechanical apparatus;
  • Responsible for office moves such as loading, hauling and unloading materials and supplies;
  • Prepares oral and written reports of work performed; Completes records, such as work orders, timesheets, requisitions, accident reports, vehicle inspection reports, etc,;
  • Assist with various company floor setups
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS: (education, work experience, and technical competencies)

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • 2-4 years of general facilities maintenance experience
  • Must possess a valid California driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to Detail
  • Must possess sufficient strength and stamina to lift and carry objects weighing up to 80 pounds
  • Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions and climb ladders.
  • Must be willing to work with exposure to unpleasant and potentially hazardous substances.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve, multi-task and prioritize many different projects and workload.
  • Excellent customer service skills, ability to communicate effectively, (written and verbally) with peers, management, contractors and vendors.
  • Must be willing to work evening and weekends shifts, able to work flexible hours, and respond to possible emergencies on very short notice.
