JOB SUMMARY: (the purpose of the role)

The Donation Department is responsible for ensuring the continued growth of quality material donations opportunities in San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin counties. The growth of such donations is essential to supplying the Retail Stores, Recompute and Ecommerce business lines with the highest quality products sought by our consumers. Profitable retail results support our Mission to assist community members with the development or enhancement of life and work skills that can lead to desirable employment opportunities in the counties we serve.

The District Manager for Donations will operate within the region of San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin Counties in a highly visible role driving success through leading, motivating, training and mentoring Goodwill donations staff and influencing and supporting other lines of business to effectively execute the priorities of Donations. This position is required to increase material donations at donation sites and support events through branding (physically and experientially), training, recruiting and assisting in procuring high value materials to the supply chain.

The District Manager for Donations is accountable for helping to open new donation sites (stores, trailers, boxes and bins) that increase donation growth by establishing targeted donor relationships as a way to procure good and premium quality donated goods. Responsible for managing daily operations at Attended Donation Centers (ADCs) and ensuring the delivery of exceptional customer service by the Donation team.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Primary accountabilities are performance expectations to be achieved, in order to deliver the desired strategic goals of the Donation Department and San Francisco Goodwill Enterprise. Primary responsibilities are specific activities to be regularly performed, in order to achieve the primary accountabilities.

Accountabilities:

    • Delivering an exceptional donor experience to represent Goodwill’s brand to our internal and external customer base.
    • Maintain high personal integrity in the development of external relationships on behalf of Goodwill as well as during the appropriation and management of donated goods or Enterprise assets.
  • Communicate clearly Goodwill’s mission and the benefits of joining with Goodwill when advocating for alliances with various community members (business, educational, governmental, etc.).
    • Establish sustainable community and business relationships that lead to continuous growth of good or premium quality donated goods.
    • Achieve all establish business performance objectives and metrics as outlined in departmental and personal performance plans.
    • Ensure Enterprise and departmental assets are managed in accordance with Enterprise policy and procedures as well as execute all financial and budget obligations per established business priorities and plans.
    • Manage the Donation Ambassador Team including recruiting, hiring, performance management and disciplinary decisions (including terminations), providing staff training, and overseeing daily operations of assigned ADCs.
    • Ensure that category pre-sort is completed to established standards.

Responsibilities:

Daily Operations

  • Build team atmosphere.
  • Train and mentor all donation site associates.
  • Drive positive reinforcement and motivation to all associates.
  • Conduct (12) site visits weekly at donation sites to ensure physical and experiential branding is maintained to a high standard and performance metrics of the site/staff are met or exceeded.
  • Build or improve donor loyalty by ensuring staff delivers exceptional customer service which includes consistent communication of Goodwill’s Mission and programs and focused attention to the donor and prompt responses to donor inquiries, recommendations and complaints.
  • Provide staff with supplies, equipment, paperwork, and reports required to manage ADCs.
  • Use Salesforce, Smart sheets, other internal systems or Excel to submit and create in a timely manner reports on donor counts and volume collected, donor data, goods donated, etc.
  • Promptly respond to all verbal and written inquiries regarding the acceptance, collection and transportation of donated goods.
  • Work with other departments to find solutions or solve problems regarding the procurement or transportation of donated goods.
  • Timely deliver staff performance appraisals, approve payroll hours and requests, conduct quarterly Donation team meetings and submit incident and other pertinent HR documents.
  • Work closely with HR to ensure the Donation team’s compliance with Enterprise policy and handle all requisite personnel matters.
  • Work closely with Loss Prevention in the investigation and resolution of loss or stolen donated goods.
  • Help to organize and work at donation drives, attend meetings as necessary and other events if applicable.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Growing the Donation Market

  • Identify, conduct research and solicit key donors who can contribute good or premium quality donations in desired product categories; solicitations will be conducted formally as well as utilizing various forms of social media.
  • Use GII’s iSite tool to confirm potential donations sites align with new donation site criteria.
  • Contact property owners/managers to secure new donation locations or maintain good standing with existing sites.
  • Assist with the opening of secured new donation sites (stores, trailers, boxes and bins) including working with leadership, Facilities and other departments to eliminate barriers to site openings.
  • Communicate clearly Goodwill’s mission when advocating for alliances with various community members (business, educational, governmental, etc.).
  • Develop donor relations by clearly communicating the benefit of donating and highlighting the Enterprise impact of donations received.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • College Degree or minimum of five (5) years of experience in the donated goods, reuse or recycling environment or other related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in leading and supervising direct reports.
  • Comfortable working within a diverse Enterprise and across various departments, in order to create solutions to work opportunities and challenges.
  • Experienced providing exceptional customer service to a diverse donor community.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Valid and clean California Driver License
