Job Description

JOB SUMMARY: (the purpose of the role) The Class A Driver is responsible for the timely collection and delivery of donations for Goodwills retail and environmental business operations according to pre-determined routes while providing great customer service. He/She is also responsible for compliance of all state DOT requirements.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (Accountabilities = the WHAT. The specific outcomes or results that an experienced person in this job is expected to contribute to the goals and performance of Goodwill. Include financial/budget accountabilities that the individual has direct or indirect impact on. Responsibilities = the HOW. The specific duties that an experienced person in this job is expected to perform in the achievement of their accountabilities). Accountabilities:
  • Load, unload and transport goods to designated locations using safe practices and procedures
  • Adhere to all state mandated DOT regulations
  • Ensure pleasant donation experience for the donor when participating in donation drives
  • Provide excellent customer service to external and internal customers
  • Drives tractor-trailer combination vehicles and bobtail trucks with lift gates
  • Perform all trash routes for all three county locations

Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all safety standards and inform management of safety, environmental and mechanical concerns
  • Manage all loads utilizing chains or other equipment as required for delivery.
  • Come to work neat and clean in appearance and wear GW issued uniform in a professional manner
  • Follow assigned routes according to schedule
  • Complete all needed paperwork related to inventory and invoicing
  • Develop and maintain contact with transportation management and work on all shifts.
  • Coordinate with warehouse, docks and retail staff and assist to unload and load all goods and materials
  • Ability to Drive and Operate End Dump and Roll Off Truck, tractor trailer combination and bobtail trucks with life gates
  • Maintain records of all truck delivery
  • Prepare and maintain all driving logs
  • Report all accidents and traffic violations
  • Operate vehicle in a safe and professional manner.
  • Complete and perform and record pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and other required paperwork
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Wear Goodwill issued uniform in a professional manner
  • Participate in mandatory testing for drugs and/or alcohol on a random, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, return-to-duty, and follow-up basis.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS: (education, work experience, and technical competencies)
  • CA Class A Driver License with clean record
  • CA DMV record that is no more than 30 days old
  • Department of Transportation medical card.
  • Must be able to read maps and communicate using GW issued radio or phone equipment
  • Must pass pre-employment DOT drug test as a condition of employment.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills and proven ability to interact effectively with diverse customer base.
  • Available to work weekends and early mornings.
  • Must be able to lift 50-65 pounds.
  • Respects and has knowledge of cultures, ethnicities, gender, sexual orientations and age groups other than ones own, able to work effectively with all.
