Summary

The Assistant Store Manager is responsible for assisting in the management of a retail store to achieve or exceed sales goals, providing excellent customer service, maintaining a clean, safe and pleasant environment, and implementing the agency’s mission, under the direct supervision of the Store Manager

Responsibilities

  • Conducts coaching and training of assigned staff in an appropriate manner at the direction of corporate staff, Store Manager and District Manager.
  • Responsible to own personal growth and development, following development plans agreed up with supervisor.
  • Works with Store Operations Manager to ensure scheduling of assigned staff optimizes business opportunities.
  • Participates and leads assigned committees, task forces and events as required.
  • May be required from time to time to assist with management staffing needs at other Goodwill locations based on the needs of the business.
  • Is responsible for maintaining the merchandise presentation standards of assigned area through appropriate allocation of available resources to ensure standards are met.
  • May be involved in hiring activities including interviewing, new-hire orientation and coaching.
  • Ensures assets are protected and that steps are taken to maximize value potential of product.
  • Ensures merchandise in assigned areas is presented according to written guidelines
  • Will work as cashier as required.
  • Handle all money and financial transactions according to published company guidelines.
  • Responsible for delivering the highest levels of customer service possible in all areas of the store.
  • Opening and closing the store and all requirements of these activities. Ensuring the proper security of the building, company assets and the safety of customers and employees.
  • Will carry a store key and have access to cash management and controls.
  • Provide a neat, clean and work environment at all times.
  • Assist in visual presentation tasks as required.
  • Will work a full-time schedule that meets the needs of the business.
  • Must address customer needs, handle and address customer complaints with focus on conflict resolution and prevention of problem escalation. In a courteous and professional manner at all times.
  • Will perform all coaching and developmental activities assigned.
  • Performs formal and informal corrective action activities as directed.
  • Work with corporate Loss Prevention and Safety to ensure company assets are protected at all times. Will participate in coaching and training activities that support this requirement.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • (1) year management experience in a retail environment
  • (1) year customer service
  • Must possess proficient use of basic math skills and/or accounting
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, manage motivate and communicate positively with store associates at all levels
  • Must exercise considerable independent judgment and discretion
  • Must have highly developed organizational skills and ability to prioritize
  • Must be able to read and write English proficiently, or have enrolled in and are on track to successfully complete an approved ESL program
  • Ability to train, coach and develop Associates
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 35 lbs.
  • Familiar with cash registers and demonstrate a working knowledge of POS systems and terminals.
  • Respects and has knowledge of cultures, ethnicities, gender, sexual orientations and age groups other than one’s own, able to work effectively with all
